29/5: White Pine middle panel complete

At the weekend I went out to the tree to do some studies of the bark. (again, excuse my appalling handwriting)

The photographs and prints did not do the intricate colours justice, making the overall colour olive green. I returned later on with a better understanding of how I could recreate the bark in my drawing.


This is a 60cm x 40cm picture – larger than most of last months images. I’ve mixed about 8 or 9 different colours in the bark, ranging from Dark Sepia,  Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber through to Bistre, French grey and silver Grey to name a few. The other two panels will be quicker to complete because there will be less detail. More Thursday…
