8/6: Willow Glass

There’s a new kind of glass called ‘Willow glass’ – thin as paper and very flexible. I like the idea of making my image a bit warped like it’s being seen through glass.

Here’s the initial drawing for my latest piece. I placed a stamp at the top left to give a sense of scale. Even though I’m experienced in pencil drawing I am very nervous in starting the colour work. Especially because this drawing is for a competition. The paper has some kinks in which can easily be rectified by soaking/heavy weights. I could have re-drawn it on a flatter piece of paper but I think it’s good to show the difficulties that artists come across when working with traditional materials. It’s not always pristine all the time. It’s part and parcel, as they say. More soon…
