9/6: Willow Glass – Colour/texture tests


It was important for me to try out a range of colour combinations on separate paper today. The first area that I will fill in will be the lower tree trunk, which is very complex when you look at the texture and rich variety colours. There isn’t just one shade of green or brown. The variation of small and large grooves in the bark texture changes the colour dramatically, not to mention the fiddly detail needed to make knots and burls come alive. The colour also changes as the eye travels up the tree. The branches at the top of the picture will be quite dark.

Next step is to apply the colours/textures to the drawing
